Ragús the show in its first manifestation hit the stage in July of 1998. The goal was to put together a show case of the best of authentic Irish music, song and dance and that is precisely what happened. Inspired by the islanders of Inis Mór in Galway Bay, Ragús is a show of fast moving, traditional music, song and dance. It is the essential Irish experience.
The word Ragús is the Gaelic for urge or desire and it captures the vibrantmood that this company of brilliant musicians, singers and dancers create on stage. For the first three years the show played exclusively on Inis Mor, the largestof the Aran Islands. In the summer of 2001 a second troupe was formed to bring the show to Dublin, performing to sell out audiences. It’s first season saw them perform in the Vicar St. Theatre but, due to popularity and demand, Ragús moved to the historic Olympia Theatre, one of Irelands oldest and most prestigious theatres, for it’s next two seasons in the Capital city.
Due to the huge renaissance of Irish culture that was taking place during these years, it was no surprise that many stage shows emerged claiming Irish identity in the quest for commercial success, however it is only a small few which have stood the test of time and continue to tour the world to both commercial success and huge critical acclaim.
Ragús is one such show whose reputation has gone from strength to strength and the excitement and the energy of its every performance may well explain its constant
demand with touring schedules now booked up to the year 2022 and beyond.
The enormous success of Ragús the show to date has seen the show take the world by storm having the unique achievement of being the only show of it’s kind to perform in each and every continent of the world. This busy touring schedule has included tours in
the USA, Australia, Japan, China, South Africa, Holland, France, Belgium, Poland, and Greece, all of which the Show has returned to for further touring due to popular demand and sell out successes.
Ragús The Show is a journey to the heart of the living tradition and is a truly enjoyable and unparalleled cultural experience.
